We Need VISTAs!



Sacramento Promise Zone is recruiting for the next round of AmeriCorps VISTA Members and AmeriCorps VISTA Leader! We will be recruiting to fill the Leader position along with the education, health, and sustainability coordinator positions. The AmeriCorps VISTA Members are vital to the Sacramento Promise Zone efforts. During their year of service, VISTA Members help with partner communications, logistics of meetings, help to increase access to funding, and greatly increase the capacity of the Sacramento Promise Zone efforts. We would greatly appreciate your support during the recruitment of the next round of VISTA Members.

Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency (SHRA) – VISTA Leader/Data and Communications Coordinator

Member Duties: The goal of the SHRA VISTA Leader is to coordinate the communications (i.e. website and social media platforms), data collection/reporting, and support 4 VISTA members for a place based initiative that focuses on creating cross sector collaboration to improve distressed communities. In addition, the leader will manage a structure that facilitates the intense collaborative efforts of a dedicated cadre of stakeholders; residents, local governments, private businesses, non-profit organizations, and federal agencies as they carry out the goals and activities of the initiative.

Service Description: The VISTA Leader for SHRA is a once in a lifetime opportunity for a highly organized and enterprising individual to manage the structure, communications, goals, interventions, and outcomes of a place based initiative. The SHRA VISTA Leader will focus on providing support and facilitating access to services and resources that contribute to improving the quality of life for underserved populations. The individual in this position will strengthen the collaborative network of stakeholders; residents, non-profit organizations, municipal entities, and businesses that are committed to supporting the goals of the place based initiative. The Leader will coordinate 4 additional VISTA members as they facilitate their action teams, plan, develop and implement new strategies to improve the quality of life for residents within distressed communities. Note that VISTA Leader must have already completed one year of service in the AmeriCorps, VISTA, NCCC, or Peace Corps programs.

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • One year of service in the AmeriCorps, VISTA, NCCC, or Peace Corps programs

Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency (SHRA) – Health Coordinator

Member Duties: The VISTA member will be assigned to the Health partners and Action Team members and will: coordinate and facilitate meetings of the Team, assist in the development of strategies to advance collaboration among health and wellness partners, evaluate current and prospective initiatives and design new metrics to measure the efficacy of policies and programs.

Service Description:The Health Action Team Coordinator for the SHRA placed based initiative is a unique opportunity for an individual with a commitment to healthy communities. They will coordinate the Health partners and action team members and Health Council; focusing specifically on interventions that will improve health outcomes for residents in Sacramento including: increasing access to healthy food and physical activity, improving access to health care, creating health career pathways and more. Headquartered within the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency (SHRA), the lead agency for a Sacramento place based initiative, the individual in this position will coordinate the action team members, build relationships and partnerships with existing and new partners, plan, develop and implement strategies and programs to improve key health priorities in Sacramento.

Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency (SHRA) – Education Coordinator

Member Duties: The VISTA member will be assigned to the Education partners and Action Team members and will: coordinate and facilitate meetings of the Team members, assist in the development of strategies to advance collaboration among education partners, evaluate current and prospective initiatives and design new metrics to measure the efficacy of policies and programs. The VISTA member will attend neighborhood meetings to provide information and receive feedback, promote programs of partner agencies and help replicate best practices throughout Sacramento.

Service Description: The Education Action Team Coordinator for the SHRA place based initiative is a once in a lifetime opportunity for an individual who understands the intrinsic link between education, economic opportunities and poverty elimination. The individual chosen for this position will assist education partners to research and assess educational interventions to improve school readiness and early learning. Headquartered within the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency (SHRA), the lead agency of Sacramento place based initiative, the individual in this position will coordinate partners and the action team, plan, and implement strategies to prepare children for success in school.

Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency (SHRA) – Sustainability Coordinator

Member Duties: The VISTA member assigned to the Sustainable Communities partner and Action Team will coordinate the team; employ strategies to strengthen community capacity to address gang involvement and create safe neighborhoods, expand art programs, and promote livability and connectivity within the Promise Zone. Member will facilitate team meetings, attend community meetings, assess current programs and make recommendations to accomplish team goals.

Service Description: The Sustainable Communities Coordinator for the SHRA place based initiative will focus on providing support and facilitating access to services and resources that contribute to the improved economic well-being and security of economically disadvantaged people. Headquartered within the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency (SHRA), the lead agency for a Sacramento place based initiative, the individual in this position will promote neighborhood revitalization by creating destinations that are desirable for both living and working. They will coordinate the partners and Action Team, complete an assessment of current initiatives, plan, develop and implement strategies to improve the housing, economic, and poverty-eliminating programs within the Zone.
